So, the cat sitting has taken a turn for the worst. Their owner has come back from one vacation to collect some clothes to go on another vacation. Despite being the healthiest, happiest cats in the world whilst their owner was away, on his brief return they decided to puke on the floor. And drain the water bowl, so it looked like I didn’t fill it up (they are clever like that). Oh dear.
Saw V for vendetta at the cinema on the weekend. I liked it. I read the comic years ago, and although the interpretation by the Wachowski brothers lacked the more sinister ambiguity of the character V, I thought they made a good film. Natalie Portman is decent, and looks cool with no hair. I didn’t notice that V was Hugo Weaving “Hello, Mr An-der-son” which was lucky as I think it might have distracted me.(Sorry if you haven’t seen it!). Good to see John Hurt again as the tyrannical High Chancellor Stutler.. mostly we see him in extreme close-up on giant video screens. Strangely, I found myself wondering if the tartar on his teeth was real or for effect.
Alan Moore, creator of V for Vendetta, Watchmen and other seminal British comics has distanced himself from the film. I did a little research on Moore, and apart from his alarming visage (he looks like a thrash metal, post LSD, evil brother of Gandalf) he is viciously sharp and eloquent and his interviews make for a fascinating read. Check out this Salon.com interview called “The Man who invented the future”. (old 2004).
