Super quick rundown…
Batman Begins The franchise makes a swooping return to brooding, angsty Batman and away from Clooney & co campiness. Highlights and returns-to-form included; truly disturbing, psychotic bad guys; secret himalayan martial arts masters (essential for picking up superhero tricks); kick ass batmobile (didn’t the Gorillaz drive one of these first???). Truer screen representation to classic Miller Dark Knight Returns than anything other than some episodes of Batman, the animated series. Not sold on Katie Holmes although she held back with only one Joey-from-Dawson’s-creek wonky smiles. Christian Bale however, very good. My faith is restored.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory Fine Tim Burton insanity with an equally oddball Willy Wonka by the delicatable Depp. Something in the Wonka voice kept reminding me of Dustin Hoffman as Tootsie, but apart from that it was fantastic fantasy. Oh and loved the reprise of Christopher Lee as Wonka’s evil dentist father. Burton back to form after the somewhat saccharine Father and Son relationship mish mash of Big Fish.
