Reluctantly I updated my iTunes to get the podcasting options (what nasty side-effects in terms of DRM that has, I daren’t think) to listen to this fine and genuine Old Time bluegrass podcast. The presenter is a hearty looking fella and is assisted by his “bluegrass kitty Buster”. The music is live and honest with some fantastic frailing and fingerpicking styles played by local West Virginia musicians. Love it.

In other old timey news, the Hackensaw Boys (don’t judge them by the mp3s, live they rock) played a fantastic set at Lowlands, and I am eagerly awaiting the new album from the Be Good Tanyas.

Incidentally - have you noticed the strange trend in Unix geeks who play the banjo? Witness Sussman of Subversion (cvs alternative) is a picker, as is Nathan Torkington of perl cookbook fame.
