Last weekend I shunned the opportunity to indulge in some ‘Dam culture with the annual Museum night and instead set off to The Paradiso to see Men what do Rock, The Darkness. With smart and funny lyrics, flamboyant guitar solos, and flared, sparkly outfits the Darkness offer (those too young to have had it the first time round), a good dose of 70’s rock, with plenty of humour in an unmistakably UK style. It was only within minutes of them taking the stage, with the rock opera style “Black Shuck” (that dog don’t give a fuck) , that my hand had formed the sign of satan and I was punching the air in rhythm.
Here’s Lowestoft lead singer Justin Hawkins in typically fine apparel.

One other act of note, I have become a patron of the bike thievery industry in Amsterdam by purchasing, for a whole 10 euros, a delightful Shimano 18 speed bike. I can see how my standards have fallen, since in the UK this bike would be the kind you might see for sale in a local paper for 30 quid, no-name brand, nothing fancy. However in Amsterdam, in this world of bikes of which 90% are possibly antiques, most without gears, most with peddle backwards brakes, my new steed is a thoroughbred.
Off to further my explorations of Europe this weekend with a trip to see fellow llama fan, Henning in Hamburg (Henning Of Hamburg?). Regular readers (ahhh, such hauteur) will remember him from a previous blogged adventure at the Easter Show in Sydney.
I’m promising myself to travel to a new country every month, in order to become one of those irritatingly well-traveled people who has been just about anywhere you care to mention, twice.
