I don’t think I like house music. Last night I found myself thinking “wouldn’t it be ace if the DJ just suddenly decided to throw in some shameless 80’s pop, a little Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, or maybe a shot of Kate Bush…”, I’d have hit that dancefloor in the shake of a rats tail (is that a well known phrase or saying? I’m not sure). Aw, I hate to admit defeat., I think I’m a fan of the more traditional disco. We used to have one in the Dogstar on Sunday afternoons. They’d start as a pleasent drink with friends but by about 6pm the place would be jumping with all kinds of Brixton flora and fauna camping it up to old classics, ska, disco, pure pop all from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Although I consider my generation a little cheated for seminal musical influences in our teens, I have fond memories of Happy Monday’s tunes, a splash of I am the Resurrection (what a summer album that one was), chewed up old Pixes tapes played over in a someones car, collecting 4AD albums (and all those EP’s) on vinyl for the beautiful art… it wasn’t punk, rap or dance but it did the job.
Was this entry supposed to have a point?
Sentimentality is a distressingly common pursuit of 20 somethings.
How about that?
Doesn’t that feel a little premature? All the sites dedicated to extinct TV shows and theme tunes, that hugely popular weekly UK series of the fashions, fads and personalities from each year from 1970 to 1999 …. people can’t wait to exchange stories about their favourite kids show (me included). I wonder why that is?
Enough of that ponderous waffle,I think I should stick to writing stories about “Funny things that happen to me when I am drunk”. I’m much more confortable with them. I’ll make a bigger effort to abuse my liver and record any resultant adventures. Besides, if I’m lucky they’ll be able to clone me a new one by the time this one is done! ;-)
Catch you later,
