I’m not going to talk about smoking. Ok? It’s pretty easy to guess why.

Instead I am going to tell you about my new course! I am a stoodent! I even have a UTS email address (for a couple of months anyway). It’s cool, I’m studying advanced Java (J2EE really) and have an account on a solaris box, with my own weblogic server to break/deface/scrawl over…I also have a security pass that gets me into my UTS building 24 hours a day to use the labs! How trusting!

The class is an unusual mix of young and old, some self-funded (for reasons of novelty or desparation) and a few sponsored by their employers. There are three women too, which is good to see. I found it pretty easy so far, and the tutor was very good. I already understand 100% more about J2EE now than I did last week. Some people were having a few issues (with Unix mostly) and the man sitting next to me (for some reason that escapes me) had chosen this course to begin using emacs and spent most of the 4 hours struggling with his reference card. Anyway, it’s every saturday starting at 9am (I must be a masochist) and runs for 8 weeks or so.
I love universities.
I come over with an academic glow..
I think I’m just going to go and hang out there with the cool kids after work, if I can get use of a CDburner (my tutor was very guarded about this and implyed I couldn’t use one) the bandwidth would be great to abuse. ;-)
